Hold for Me, an AI secretary is introduced by Google in the United States for users of Google’s Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a phones. It entails Google’s AI devices taking control of as an automated assistant when on hold to a phone call center, leaving the individual free to put down the phone and continue with their lives.
The new service will pay attention when the phone call is picked up and notify the users when it’s time for them to return on the phone. Meanwhile, Google’s assistant will ask the phone call center to hold, barring them from hanging up the phone call in case of no response.
Hold for Me is powered by Google’s Duplex technology, which not only recognizes hold music but also understands the difference between a recorded message (like’ Hello, thank you for waiting’) and a representative on the line. â said Google’s Andrew Goodman and Joseph Cherukara
The new feature has some constraints too. The first rollout is very restricted only to the Pixel 5 phone, which has a noted manufacturing run of only 800,000 devices. Google has not yet introduced any strategies to release the feature on various other devices. Besides, it just operates in the United States with toll-free numbers.
At the heart of the attribute is Google‘s Duplex, the occasional innovation solution that the firm has utilized to boost telephone-based automation.
Released in 2018, Duplex enables Google customers to schedule an appointment and arrange reservations in dining establishments instantly, with the AI aide making the telephone call.
When it was revealed, the voice synthesis was so natural, also presenting “err” as well as “mmm-hmm” to load spaces in between words that some criticized it as “sly.” Within a week of the launch, Google guaranteed that the software program would determine itself as robotic when calling services.
