Amazon brings Alexa phone app for better driving experience

Amazon launches the Alexa smartphone app as a part of its plan to dominate the automobile voice control market.

Amazon introduced two brand-new car-focused features for its Alexa voice assistant. ‘Auto Mode’ transforms the Alexa smart device application right into a receptive, driver-friendly screen. At the same time ‘Start My Commute’ gives on-demand climate, website traffic updates with a choice of entertainment. The Auto Mode feature of the Amazon’s Alexa smartphone app will be available to users in the US, Canada, Germany, France, India, Italy, Spain, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. While, Start My Commute will initially only be available in the US.

The brand-new abilities in the Alexa smartphone app come as used car sales that have increased during the pandemic. As buyers avoid traveling via trains, buses, taxis, others are buying second-hand vehicles instead of brand-new to save money in an unclear economic situation.

Auto Mode is made to assist drivers in remaining focused on the road with visuals, big touch targets, and user-friendly shortcuts for the most typical Alexa activities utilized in automobiles, like browsing to saved places, making phone calls, as well as playing current song tracks. The Auto Mode home display offers one-touch access to frequent activities, with shortcuts to play and stop the existing media resource briefly, browse to house or job, and make a phone call.

Auto Mode’s navigate screen will provide quick access to locations saved in the Alexa smartphone app. Picking a place will open the recommended navigating application and guide users with a simple command “Alexa, go back to the Alexa application” to switch back. They can also ask Alexa to help them locate someplace new (e.g., “Alexa, discover neighboring coffee shops”). As Alexa can search responses, Auto Mode will display a simplified list showing only relevant information.

The Communicate display permits an individual to make a phone call. Users can ask Alexa to initiate the action, or they can tap on their choice, and Auto Mode will give a listing of all calls and devices. If they desire their family to know they’re headed home, they can say, “Alexa, announce I am on my way home.”

There’s also Play display, which reveals the most current media played using Alexa and a button to play or stop briefly, along with a list of recently played media. Choosing any one of the things in the checklist begins playing the media and emerges the Now Playing display, which gives extra controls certain to the kind of media being played and the service used.

Together with Echo Auto, Amazon’s designed-for-vehicles Echo tool, Auto Mode, and Featured Commute add to its ongoing pursuit to control the vehicle voice system market. In September, in collaboration with ExxonMobil and Fiserv, Amazon debuted an Alexa function that allows individuals to pay for gas with a voice command. Amazon also bagged deals with Lamborghini and Rivian to incorporate Alexa right into cars and enable users to manage in-car functions like HVAC and windows as well as open and close the trunk.
